1. Slow Down. If you find yourself always rushing,
slow down. Start by walking, talking and eating more slowly.
2. Be Prepared. Nothing makes us more stressed than
being unprepared. Spend some time on each school subject even if you don’t
have homework. You can get your binder and papers organized, look over your
notes and the textbook or work on any long term assignments.
3. Eat Well. Start with adding more fruits and
vegetables every day. The following foods are considered super-foods for many
reasons: Beans, Blueberries, Broccoli, Oats, Oranges, Pumpkin, Salmon, Soy,
Spinach, Tomatoes, Turkey, Walnuts, almonds and Yogurt. Take a super-food
break everyday.
4. Laugh. Share jokes or funny stories everyday. Read
cartoons! Have a friend over that will get you in a good mood and makes you
laugh!
5. Breathe. Take five deep breaths through your nose.
Close your eyes and pay attention only to your breathing while doing this. Do
this right before a test/quiz or when you feel rushed.
6. Special Corner. Make a special corner in your room,
home or yard. Always keep it clean and clear of clutter. Whenever you need a
break, go to your corner and read or listen to music, read a book play a game
and relax. Take a mini-break.
7. Watch Your Words. Saying nice words makes us feel
good. Saying angry or mean words makes us feel angry and mean. If you are
angry or hurt, take a break. Come back to the topic when you feel better and
can explain your feelings without using angry words. You can talk to a
teacher, a guidance counselor, a parent or sibling.
8. Cry. Crying is a wonderful way to express your
feelings. You’ll feel better. Also, feel free to say to your family and
friends that you are feeling sad. It’s good to express our feelings
honestly.
9. Take a walk. This is one of the best relaxation
techniques. Any exercise will help, but walking is the simplest.
10. Get a hug. Sharing seven hugs a day will make you
feel really good.
